Summary at a Glance

Last year, James Hawes (the creator of Apple TV’s Slow Horses) said AI would likely be producing feature films in three to five years – and soap operas sooner still.

Brady Corbet, the director of The Brutalist, an epic three-and-a-half-hour film about a Hungarian architect in 1950s America, has been accused of using AI to generate architectural drawings and zhuzh the voice of its actors speaking in a foreign language.

One of its outcomes was to ensure that any use of an actor’s voice or image by AI would require their consent and compensation.

AI may not yet be coming for the Hollywood we see at the Academy Awards, but it is coming for the Hollywood we watch at home on our sofas.

Hollywood has long been emblematic of American capitalism, and studios will only use AI if there is demand for content that can be made by it.
