The Newcastle United fanatic was elated to get a text from the Magpies legend after winning the Masters in 2023, which secured him a place in that year’s Premier League.
He told Sky Sports: “It was great to get a text from Alan Shearer on Monday morning.
Dobey’s admiration for Shearer only grew when the two crossed paths at St James' Park.
