Ange Postecoglou said Spurs’ two-hour FA Cup slog will not affect their preparations for the north London derby. The Premier League side were taken to extra time by Tamworth, only for an own goal to break the non-leaguers’ resistance. Further strikes from Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson wrapped up a 3-0 win.

The Aussie’s side are next in action on Wednesday at the Emirates against old enemy Arsenal. Postecoglou kept Kulusevski and Son Heung-min on the bench at the Lamb and was forced to bring on both to see off Andy Peake’s men. Asked if the additional 30 minutes would have an effect, Spurs’ boss said: “No, the most important thing is that we got the job done. That we got through, whether it was 90 minutes or longer.

“We’d have preferred to have finished it off earlier - the boys felt pretty comfortable playing as much as they did.” Tamworth were full value for their draw. Although Spurs enjoyed several chances after the interval, they were unable to break the deadlock until Postecoglou brought on his subs. The Spurs boss added: “Credit to Tamworth, they gave a real good account of themselves.

“We knew it would be a challenging afternoon for us, the plastic pitch made it difficult to play in the manner we wanted. It’s easy to get frustrated on days like this but, for the most part, the lads kept their heads clear and calm. They persisted and eventually overpowered them.”.

Tamworth could have snatched victory at the death but Thomas McGlinchey’s goalbound effort was blocked on the line. Lambs’ boss Peake said: “I’ve said in the dressing room that I could understand the lads being immensely disappointed because we almost created history.
