Ange Postecoglou slams section of Tamworth support for 'vile' and 'detestable' abuse during FA Cup tie - as Tottenham boss praises minnows' boss

Ange Postecoglou has described abuse he suffered from a section of Tamworth supporters as ‘vile’ and ‘detestable’. The partisan crowd at the Lamb Ground made it their business to make life uncomfortable for their illustrious visitors during Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie, won 3-0 by Spurs after extra time.

Most of it was in good humour according to Postecoglou, who also praised the welcome he received from Tamworth manager Andy Peaks and the National League club. Some of it, he thought had crossed a line and was simply not acceptable, including items thrown at him from the terraces behind the dug outs.

'Credit to Andy and his players and the people of Tamworth at the football club,' said the Spurs boss. 'I thought they did themselves proud on the day with the way they presented everything. Ninety per cent of the crowd were very good and enjoyed the banter.
'There was 10 per cent who were pretty unacceptable. The stuff I heard was pretty vile and detestable, and getting things thrown at me, not a great experience. Postecoglou highlighted that 90 per cent of the crowd had been very good during the tie. 'We’re kind of expected to be the bigger person. I would have loved to have turned around and not be the bigger person in that moment, but you deal with it and go on.'.
