Arne Slot reveals Liverpool's transfer plan after dropping hint over summer deals

Arne Slot has defended Liverpool's decision not to jump into the transfer market to strengthen their bid for success this season. The Reds saw no incoming transfers during the January window as they push for honours on four fronts, and hold a promising six-point lead in the Premier League. The inactive month follows a quiet summer after Slot arrived from Feyenoord where only Federico Chiesa joined on loan, in addition to Liverpool making a deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili that saw the goalkeeper remain with Valencia for a further year.
Such is the quality of his squad, Slot has felt under little pressure to add to it thus far, and trusts the players at his disposal. The Dutchman believes that his team have repaid that faith. The 46-year-old also revealed that Liverpool's lack of injuries have seen the club be able to take a relaxed approach. Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered an injury this past weekend, but Slot is without long-term worries for the most part.
"Maybe there aren't many managers with as good as squad as I have?" said Slot ahead of Liverpool's Carabao Cup clash against Tottenham. "The players have shown the trust we have in them was correct. "We don't have many injuries, long-term injuries. We did have some with Alisson, Jota, others but other than Trent they are all ready today so no reason to add to the team unless there's a chance in the market. We saw that with the goalkeeper we brought in.".
Liverpool's boss revealed ahead of the transfer window closing, that the Reds had already started to focus on making moves in the summer however. The Anfield could have work to do with there yet to be an announcement on the futures of out-of-contract stars Mo Salah, Virgial van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold. "Liverpool should always be competing for a league title, we should always be competing for the Champions League. I’m hoping I will be able to keep the club at that level," Slot said last week.
"I know people sometimes question this because they haven’t seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There’s a reason for that – because we’re happy with the squad. "But I do know we’re definitely working on strengthening in the summer.”. Slot revealed that Alexander-Arnold would miss the match against Spurs but could be in contention for their FA Cup clash with Plymouth Argyle.
"I think you saw he left the pitch with a bit of a pain in his leg, so that is why he misses tomorrow," Slot said. "He is already on the pitch with the rehab coach, let's see how long it takes.".
