Arne Slot hopes Anfield can roar his side beyond Spurs and into his first ever Liverpool final. The Reds welcome the North London side to Merseyside on Thursday night for the second-leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash. And Liverpool have it all to do after losing the first leg 1-0 due to Lucas Bergvall’s winning goal. Should Slot’s side win, it would see the Dutchman book a spot in his first domestic final since arriving from Anfield last summer. He believes that the Anfield atmosphere could go a long way in helping Liverpool stage a comeback.

Writing in the club’s matchday programme, Slot said: "Of course, I was not at Liverpool the last time that the club reached a Wembley final in this competition last year, but I know how special that day was for the players, staff and supporters. "I have no doubt given what happened on that occasion that it is a day which will be spoken about for many years to come, but our job now is to look to create new memories.

"For that to happen, we will need a big performance, and we will also need Anfield to do what it does best. I already have experience of what makes this stadium so special, but I am reliably informed that the atmosphere can be even better on nights like this so hopefully that will be the case.”. And while Slot believes that the Anfield atmosphere could work in his favour, captain Virgil van Dijk also holds the same opinion. He wrote: “We effectively start the game a goal down, against a team that has attacking players that can really hurt you, so it is going to take a very good performance from us if we are to secure our place at Wembley.

“I’ve spoken previously about the wonderful memories the Carabao Cup has given us – and me personally – in recent years, and we would all love to make some more. What team should Liverpool name vs Spurs? Share your thoughts in the comments below. “We are all desperate to be in next month’s final. Hopefully, with a strong performance and with your incredible support behind us, we can make it another memorable Anfield night.”.

Following the clash with Spurs, Liverpool are then once again in cup action at the weekend. They take on Championship strugglers Plymouth in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Home Park on Sunday. Their next Premier League assignment pits them against Merseyside rivals Everton next Wednesday, Liverpool having the chance to extend their lead at the top of the tale to nine points.
