Arsenal have submitted an appeal against Myles Lewis-Skelly's controversial red card during their 1-0 win over Wolves at the weekend. Teenage defender Lewis-Skelly was dismissed by referee Michael Oliver midway through the first half at Molineux following his challenge on Matt Doherty.

His team-mates were visibly stunned by the decision but Oliver's on-field call was confirmed by VAR Darren England, who adjudged the tackle to be 'serious foul play'. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said he was 'absolutely fuming' with the red card and indicated that the club would lodge an appeal to overturn Lewis-Skelly's ban.

Asked about the matter post-match, Arteta said: 'That's for the club to decide what is the best decision. It's that obvious that maybe we don't even need to.'. As it stands, the 18-year-old will serve a three-game suspension, ruling him out of matches against Manchester City and Leicester in the Premier League. He would also be forced to sit out of the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle.
