FA announce verdict on Myles Lewis-Skelly red card after Arsenal appeal Michael Oliver decision

Arsenal have won their appeal to have Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card from Saturday’s win at Wolves overturned - and he will now be available for Sunday's showdown with Manchester City. Lewis-Skelly was sent off shortly before half-time of Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux last weekend after tripping Wolves defender Matt Doherty.
Referee Michael Oliver gave the teenager a red card and VAR Darren England recommended he stick with his on-field decision. Arsenal appealed the decision on Tuesday and it was confirmed later that evening the club had been successful. Lewis-Skelly had been due to have a three-game ban, meaning he would have missed games against Manchester City, the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle and a trip to Leicester.
A statement from the FA read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Myles Lewis-Skelly and removed his three-match suspension. “The Arsenal player was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, 25 January 2025.”.
The decision to send off Lewis-Skelly was met with almost universal criticism from pundits and commentators, with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta left “absolutely fuming”, despite Riccardo Calafiori’s strike giving his side a vital 1-0 victory after Wolves had themselves been reduced to ten men.
