Arsenal player ratings vs Brentford: Gabriel Jesus resurgence continues as Ethan Nwaneri shows scary potential

Arsenal moved up to second in the Premier League table by beating Brentford. The Gunners kicked off 2025 in style as goals from Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli secured a 3-1 win. Arsenal had to come from behind, though, after Byran Mbeumo had put Brentford ahead inside the opening 15 minutes.
Mikel Arteta’s side fought back and the victory means they are now six points off Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Simon Collings was at the Gtech Community Stadium to see Arsenal in action... David Raya 6. Will have been disappointed after Mbeumo beat him at his near post. Almost let a tame effort from Keane Lewis-Potter sneak through him, too.
Jurrien Timber 7. Booked in the first half and is suspended for Saturday’s game at Brighton, but otherwise had a good evening. Linked up nicely with Nwaneri at times. William Saliba 7. Another classy display from the Frenchman, who gave Yoane Wissa little to feed off. Composed on the ball, too.
Gabriel 7. A solid display from the Brazilian. Arsenal’s defence lacked protection from their midfield in some moments and he made a couple of vital interceptions. Riccardo Calafiori 6. Made his first start since November after a groin injury. Perhaps could have closed Mbeumo down quicker for the opening goal.
Martin Odegaard 6. Not at the level he was last season, but this was a steady performance. Created a few good openings in the second half. Thomas Partey 8. Back in the team after being rested against Ipswich last time out. It was his saved shot that Jesus scored from to level the game.
