A gobsmacked Antiques Roadshow guest was left speechless after discovering the unexpected value of an item she had nearly binned. The beloved BBC programme returned with Fiona Bruce at the helm on Sunday (January 5), this time visiting the Firstsite contemporary art gallery in Colchester.

This week's episode saw a flurry of visitors eager to have their treasures appraised by the show's experts. However, the episode took a dramatic twist when one woman presented an item that narrowly escaped the rubbish bin. Expert Siobhan Tyrrell was ready to assess the piece, remarking: "You brought this in today and you told me that it almost got chucked in the bin.".

To which the owner responded: "Well, it did yes," prompting Siobhan to share her initial impressions: "I've got to admit, it looks a little bit like a car crash because it's been soldered so much but actually it's closed back.", reports the Express. Upon closer inspection, Siobhan discovered more about the item, saying: "And then when I turned it over and had a look at the stones, we've got old cut diamonds," as she examined it further. The guest couldn't hide her surprise, exclaiming: "I know I'm amazed.".

Siobhan continued to explain: "We've got emeralds and we've got garnets. It looks certainly 1700s." The revelation of the item's worth was the icing on the cake, as Siobhan estimated: "I would've said that's going to make £300 to £400.". Overjoyed by the news, the guest declared: " Well, it's made my day! It really has." Last week's episode also captivated viewers with a special feature exploring the history of food.
