BBC Breakfast's Sarah Campbell had to reassure viewers that her colleague Ben Thompson had not been skewered in the head with a dart following a visual gag. The presenting duo were chatting with new PDC World Darts Champion Luke Littler. who clinched the title at just age 17, when fans spotted something amiss that they just couldn't unsee on Saturday morning (January 5).
As they delved into Luke's incredible victory, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the dart graphic on the screen behind seemed to be impaling Ben in the head as many took to online platforms to jest about the image on screens. Sarah, who joined Ben on the iconic sofa to conduct the interview with Luke, caught wind of viewers' concerns and took to social media to clear the air.
She posted: "The new World Darts Champion @LukeTheNuke180 speaking on @BBCBreakfast. And worry not ... @BenThompsonTV is fine.. despite apparently being speared by a mammoth dart (thanks to all the concerned viewers who flagged).". The Express reports one fan humorously expressed: "We were worried about that! We thought Ben had a Double 10 on the back of his napper.".
Another quipped about the safety of the presenters: "Your presenters should wear hard hats. Doctor I feel a sharp pain the back of my head," prompting Sarah to respond with a laughing emoji. A third relieved viewer responded with a smiley and thumbs up emoji, comforted by Sarah's clarification. Fans also heaped praise on Luke's triumph, with one saying: "What an amazing final, and what an incredibly talented man.".
