Amidst all the drama surrounding It Ends With Us and the $400 million legal battle between its stars, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, a new film starring Lively has been unveiled. Amazon Prime Video are gearing up to release Blake and Anna Kendrick’s sequel to their 2018 noir A Simple Favor. Another Simple Favor will see the allegedly feuding leading ladies return as co-stars and the film will open the 2025 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas on March 7, as announced by director Paul Feig on Tuesday.
Between Blake’s much-publicised legal row with Justin, Paul Feig took to social media and shared the promotional poster of his upcoming flick , Another Simple Favor, which is all set to stream on Prime Video from May 1. However the announcement may have snubbed leading lady Blake Lively, as the director failed to tag her in his announcement post on Instagram. And people were quick to notice. A user asked: "Is it Paul's cut or Blake's cut?" referring to claims that Blake supposedly tried to change the It Ends With Us script, to which Paul swiftly responded: "It’s my cut. There is no other cut. Blake has been nothing but supportive and a dream to work with. She is the best and an amazing collaborator and I’m her biggest fan. Just wanted to clear that up.".
Another Simple Favor will see Blake and Anna reprise their roles as Emily Nelson and Stephanie Smothers – the slick suburban moms with many a secret. The sequel reportedly follows "Stephanie and Emily as they head to Capri, Italy, for Emily's lavish wedding to a rich Italian businessman.". The first instalment, A Simple Favor, released back in 2018 and opened to mixed reviews. Some called the film a ‘sublimely silly battle of the moms’ and a ‘middling noir’ while others thought it was a ‘delicious black comedy’.
Between the film being largely panned by critics along with the alleged tension between Anna and Blake – people are shocked that the sequel has actually become a reality. One user took to social media and said: “Shocked that there’s a sequel to this movie but OK,” while another user commented: “No thank you. I’ll pass on this.” Yet another person had a negative response and shared: “I speak for us all when I say we will not be watching.”.
Other users were still pondering over the alleged rivalry between the leading ladies: “Wait so they don’t hate each other?” and another user cheekily commented: “This should be a fun press tour.”. Meanwhile another film fan quipped: "Can't wait for the sequel to be titled 'Just One More Simple Favor, I Swear." A fourth added: "Still really not sure why this needs a sequel, but I'm curious.".
