Both directions of the M25 closed after serious crash as emergency air ambulance is called in and motorists are told to avoid the area

Both directions of the M25 have been shut following a serious road traffic collision. The incident occurred between junction 27 Epping and junction 28 Brentwood. Emergency services are attending the scene with the air ambulance service having also been called in to assist.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area as miles-long tailbacks stretch back along the motorway. In a statement released to the MailOnline, Essex Police said: 'We are currently at the scene of a serious collision on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 between junctions 27 and 28.

'There is significant disruption in the area and we are expecting this to continue for a number of hours with possible road closures on both carriageways. 'Please avoid the area if you can and plan accordingly. 'We appreciate your patience and we will update you as soon as we can'.

Essex Police, East of England Ambulance Service and Essex Fire and Rescue Service have all been contacted by the MailOnline for additional comment on the incident. Both carriageways on the M25 have been closed following a serious road traffic collision.
