Boy, 10, eaten alive by 'hunting' mountain lion in front of heartbroken parents The parents of a 10-year-old boy were forced to watch on in horror as the youngster was eaten alive by a mountain lion.
The horror incident sparked fear amongst parents who were told to keep children close to adults during family hikes - even on well travelled trails after it emerged that Mark from Lakewood, Colorado, had wandered a few yards ahead when he became hunting prey.
It was reported that Mark's parents Kathy and David Miedema were able to scare the mountain lion away during the horror incident.
Speaking at the time of the tragedy, park spokesman Doug Caldwell theorised that Mark happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
He said: "What we think may have happened - and this is pure theory - is that unfortunately Mark came along at the wrong time when the lion was in a hunting mode.
