Located in the coastal city of Gwadar in Pakistan, the ambitious airport was built by China in an attempt to revive the impoverished city around it.
Unlike other international airports - where thousands of people including staff, security and flyers buzz around the area - the Gwadar airport shows no signs of life.
The New Gwadar International Airport has the capacity to serve 400,000 people - but its gates have not welcomed a single passenger yet.
Azeem Khalid, an international relations expert who specializes in Pakistan-China ties, said: "This airport is not for Pakistan or Gwadar.
Abdul Ghafoor Hoth, district president of the Balochistan Awami Party, said not a single resident of Gwadar was hired to work at the airport, “not even as a watchman.”.
