By Harry Bamforth. The festive period was not exactly kind to Brentford. Thomas Frank's side seemed to lose their mojo, only picking up one point in three games either side of Christmas. They only managed to score one goal in that time too, which is a far cry from what we have been used to with them this season.
It's a new year now though and the Bees will be desperate to start picking up some wins again. I mean, playing one of the best teams in England, in Arsenal, is not exactly ideal, but they won't be scared. I think we should expect a lively performance from the hosts, I just have that feeling that they will bring their A-game.
I guess we will just have to wait and see. . Mikel Arteta, Arsenal manager, speaking pre-match:. 2024 was a pretty good year for the Gunners, it has to be said. They won the most points in the Premier League during the calendar year, which just shows how strong they have been.
However, you don't win the Premier League title for that, do you?. If they do want to get their hands on the trophy at the end of the season, they simply can't drop points at Brentford today. They are nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool having played the same a count of games. It's not exactly an easy gap to close.
The Gunners have won their past two league matches to get a bit of form going again, but anything less than three points today would be a disaster for them. Yep, that's how big this game is. Can they start the new year in the same way they ended the last?.
