One celebrity failed to make it past the halfway point in the first episode of Celebrity Bear Hunt. Holly Willoughby's brand new Netflix show Celebrity Bear Hunt is now streaming, with 12 famous faces hoping to outrun survival expert Bear Grylls in the Costa Rican jungle. The show's very first challenge saw the celebrities arrive in Costa Rica attempt to get from the starting point to the show's base camp without being caught by Bear. Split into two teams, the stars were given a head start to make it to either a boat, a Jeep or a helicopter as Bear parachuted into the jungle to catch them.
While Spicy Girls' Mel B and The Saturdays' Una Healy tried to plug holes in the boat which would take them to the base camp, Leomie Anderson headed off to find bigger plugs - but was quickly detected by a hidden Bear. "Stop, Leomie!" he shouted as she tried to sprint off, however she wasn't quick enough. Bear tied her up before heading off to catch more celebs by the boats, as Big Zuu, Boris Becker, Danny Cipriani and Una paddled away. Unfortunately, Mel's boat began sinking into the alligator-filled estuary.
"They've abandoned Mel, they've just left her to go on her own," Bear told the camera. "She doesn't have enough bungs and there are crocodiles in this estuary. They've hung her out to dry." "Mel stop - that boat will sink. You're then in the water with crocs," she shouted from the bank. "We can do this the easy way or the hard way. That boat is going down, you've got about 30 seconds.". After rescuing Mel in his dinghy, Bear declared that Mel was the next celebrity to be caught. Meanwhile, Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen became the third celebrity to be caught, just moments away from him boarding the helicopter to safety.
Having been captured by Bear during the very first challenge, it meant that the three stars had to endure the Bear Pit - an area of the jungle where celebrities must try to either escape or avoid being captured by Bear in the space of an hour. Speaking about the Netflix show, Bear Grylls revealed that he pushed himself out of his comfort zone while filming the series. "I actually really get nervous filming," he told The One Show. "I really don’t like the camera and from really early on in the TV shows we started making. When I first started it was like you were trying to get away from the camera because I was always behind it, on the move and running.
"I find lots of things hard and life generally is scary but I have learnt the way to deal with the scary stuff is not to run from it, you’ve just got to face it. The more you do it, it becomes like a muscle inside and then you get better at it and I think it’s a comfort zone you have to get out of it fast and keep challenging.”.
