Egg-lovers rejoice! There's a new hack to poach your eggs in under a minute, and you can ditch the saucepan. Taking to TikTok, Chef Erica Wides, known as @chefsmartypants, has dished out her daily egg-poaching secret - using nothing but a microwave. She advises: "Maybe you don't want to boil a pot of water every morning, poach your egg in the microwave. This is how I do it every day.".

Erica kicks off by cracking an egg into a small glass bowl, emphasizing the need for a container that's "at least twice as deep as the height of the egg". Next up, she drowns the egg with water to a depth of "at least half an inch to an inch" - a crucial step to prevent any eggy explosions.

Popping the egg into the microwave, Erica cautions that timing may vary as microwaves differ: while hers takes 44 seconds, her old one only needed 36. Essentially, anywhere between 35 to 50 seconds should do, but a little experimenting with the timer might be necessary to find your microwave's sweet spot, reports the Express.

Erica explained that the timing for cooking eggs can vary depending on personal preference. She stated: "I like mine perfect because I'm a chef and it has to be perfect. This means firm whites and runny yolk.". Demonstrating her method, she took the egg out of the microwave after 44 seconds and proudly presented it to the camera, declaring: "Perfect poached egg." As Erica cut into the poached egg, revealing its flawlessly cooked state, TikTok users were quick to express their amazement in the comments section.
