Chelsea's efforts to land Marc Guehi this month are in the balance with Crystal Palace not planning on signing a replacement for recalled loanee Trevoh Chalobah. Centre back Chalobah, who signed a season-long loan deal with the Selhurst Park club in the summer, has returned to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea activated a recall clause in light of Wesley Fofana's injury.

Guehi was the Blues' clear No 1 central defensive target this month and talks between the clubs have taken place over a potential January move. But Chelsea's move to recall Chalobah has placed major doubt over whether they will continue talks to land Guehi this month, with the expectancy being the England star will stay at Palace until the end of the season.

Palace, as things stand, are not actively looking to replace Chalobah in January, with Guehi, Maxence Lacroix, Chadi Riad and Chris Richards already at the club. Losing another centre back is not a scenario Palace are likely to consider during the transfer window which points to Guehi staying.

Chelsea's bid to sign defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this month is up in the air. The Blues recalled Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Palace, with the Eagles not looking at signing a replacement. Chalobah was recalled for defensive cover at the Blues following the injury to Wesley Fofana.

Chelsea remain interested in Guehi and well-placed sources insist a move may still be possible. But, as things stand, the fact Palace have no intention of entering the market to replace Chalobah means it would take an unexpected turn of events for the situation to change.
