The chief suspect in the murder of a Citibank boss who was found beaten to death in her south London home may have fled the country. Marianne Kilonzi, 43, was found dead at her home in Woolwich, southeast London, by police on January 17 after receiving a concern for welfare call. Neighbours claimed to have heard "blood-curdling screams" coming from the property before attending officers discovered bludgeoned Ms Kilonzi's lifeless body, with a post-mortem later confirming the Citibank VP died from blunt force trauma.

Detectives helming the distressing case are considering whether her murderer - whom they believe was known to the high-flying executive - fled the plush pad and may now have escaped the country. Scotland Yard has said it is pursuing the line of inquiry and that investigators believe they have identified the killer.

Investigation lead Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren said in a statement this week that officers are in contact with Ms Kilonzi's family, and assured the public there is not thought to be a wider risk to the public. She said: "This is a tragic crime and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne's loved ones and colleagues.

"We are in contact with her family, who are being supported by specialist colleagues. I know this is a concerning time for the wider community and want to reassure the public that whilst we are in the early stages of this investigation, we believe the suspect was known to Marianne and there is no wider risk to the public.
