A cleaning whizz has uncovered the five spots around the house that most of us miss during our regular clean-ups. TikTok sensation Caroline Soloman, hailing from New York and famed among her 230,000 followers for her nifty tidying tricks, has taken to social media to make household chores less of a slog. In a viral video, she explained "five things that you might be forgetting to clean" and topping her list is the humble toothbrush holder.
She suggests a straightforward fix to prevent the accumulation of filth the key is opting for a dishwasher-friendly toothbrush holder. The advice-laden clip has clocked in close to 28,000 views where Caroline advises: "Clean in the dishwasher once a week if it's dishwasher-safe.".
Echoing her sentiment, a Reddit enthusiast chimed in: "Toothbrush holders get nasty at the bottom so throw them into the dishwasher every week or so." That residual water clinging to the toothbrush after using it slides down and collects in the bottom of the toothbrush holder, where it sits and grows bacteria and becomes a disgusting grey sludge. Rinse it out in the sink and then sanitize it in the dishwasher every week or so.
Beyond just the toothbrush holder, Caroline flagged that many neglect their yoga mats and clothes hampers. Spray down both sides [of the yoga mat] with a half water and half vinegar. Wipe with a rag and then hang dry, she instructs. "Dust and dirt can build up easily at the base [of your hampers]. Wipe the base clean with a microfiber cleaning cloth and all-purpose spray." According to Caroline, it's important to regularly rinse reusable grocery bags and water bottles with warm soapy water to prevent muck from accumulating.
