Cold radiators will 'heat up fast' in 20 minutes with engineer's 'easy' fix

Warming up your home during the chilly months has become a bit more challenging with energy bills on the rise this month. If your radiator isn't performing at its peak, you could be losing both heat and cash spent on those hefty heating bills. The heating gurus over at BestHeating have highlighted that bleeding radiators is crucial for them to "heat up fast and properly". Air can build up in your heating system over time, leading to air pockets in the radiators which block the smooth circulation of hot water, causing cold spots and a drop in heating efficiency.
A simple touch test on your radiator often reveals the issue – a cold area at the top indicates trapped air, and sometimes the radiator might not heat up at all. Bleeding your radiators gets rid of this pesky air, letting the hot water zip through your system, boosting overall performance.
The experts advise: "If you experience anything like this with your radiators, the chances are that you'll need to take steps to remove the air by bleeding the radiator.". You'll need a few tools to bleed your radiator: a radiator key, a cloth or towel, and a container. Expect to spend about "20 minutes" on the task, possibly longer if you're tackling multiple radiators, reports the Express.
Always remember to switch off your heating before starting to bleed the radiators, as this will keep you safe from any accidental scalding. When your radiators are lukewarm or have cold spots, it's time for a bit of DIY by bleeding them. Here's how to get them toasty again: find the bleed valve, often at the top corner looking like a "small square or hexagonal nut".
