A quick one second radiator hack could save people serious cash on their energy bills. The TikTok post by consumer champions Which? recommended turning your radiators down especially in rooms where radiators are not used as often. Energy experts also recommended keeping your radiators on an even lower setting when you are away. But the setting will still prevent your pipes freezing as some heat is distributed.
The post which was highlighted by @whichuk was headed: "This simple radiator trick could help you slash your energy bills this winter." It then gave some tips to save cash by turning down thebheat in some rooms. An expert is seen turning down the on radiators which experts say do not need to be kept at five on the radiator gauge. An expert from Which? advised: "Don't have this dial higher than three - unless it's the room where your thermostat is. Whacking your thermostatic radiator valve up to five opens the valve up to the max, letting loads of hot water into the radiator when your central heating is on.
"That's great when it's a room you want to heat quickly like the living room. Especially if that is where your main thermostat is. But if you have every radiator set to five, your heating bills could be higher than they need to be.". She also said bedrooms do not need to be kept at a high temperature and recommended turning the dial down to two or three: "In bedrooms you should keep the dial between two and three. This will keep the room temp between 15 and 20 degrees which is comfortable and could save you money. If you are going away for a while set it to the frost sign. When your heating is on, this will allow just enough water into the radiator to keep the room above seven degrees. So your pipes don't freeze.
