Actor Colson Smith has sparked concern his Coronation Street exit isn't the only work commitment he is stepping back from. The Celebrity Big Brother star, 26, recently revealed his time on the ITV soap will come to an end this summer after 14 years playing Weatherfield's resident copper. Colson's social media statement announcement on Monday led to many of his fans asking the same question.
Sharing a snap of himself in character as Craig posing in front of the Rovers Return, Colson told his 207,000 Instagram followers: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025. I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.
The actor, who joined the soap at just 11 years old, continued: "I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!".
Colson currently hosts a podcast with his fellow Coronation Street actors Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price, who play David Platt and Nick Tilsley on the cobbles. Due to Colson's pending Corrie departure, fans of On The Sofa with Colson, Jack and Ben, fans fear the actor may also quit the podcast.
"Noooooo how will the podcast work now? Cause we all know @jackpshepherd88 doesn’t talk to people who leave the show," one Instagram user commented underneath Colson's exit announcement on Monday. "Does this mean that jack will no longer speak to you as you’ll have left which will make it hard to continue the pod," another joked as a third asked: "What will happen to the podcast?!?".
