Coronation Street viewers will be bidding farewell to a beloved character later this year, following a 14-year stint on the show. Colson Smith, the actor behind Craig Tinker, took to social media on Monday, 6 January, to break the news that he'll be departing the cobbles in 2025.

Alongside a photo of himself in character, the 26-year-old actor, who first joined the ITV soap in 2011, wrote: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025.". He expressed his gratitude, saying: "I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation street.

"I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy. For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!".

His co-stars and 207K followers were quick to respond, with Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt) commenting: "Now that i've stopped crying about it, i can't WAIT to see you slay the day. x". Other messages of support came from Tina O'Brien (Sarah Platt), who wrote: "Love you Cols" accompanied by heart emojis, Sally Ann Matthews (Jenny Connor) said: "Grandma loves ya and can't wait to watch you fly! x", Channique Sterling-Brown (Dee-Dee Bailey) expressed: "We love you", and Georgia Taylor (Toyah Battersby) added: "We love you Cols.", reports Lancs Live.
