Cristiano Ronaldo has already told the football world that he believes the Saudi Professional League is stronger than most European football divisions. The Manchester United and Real Madrid legend, 39, has been in Saudi Arabia since the 2023 January transfer window. Two years since Ronaldo moved to the Middle East after United tore up his contract in the wake of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Marcus Rashford has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

It's been reported that the 27-year-old has rejected three approaches from the mega-rich country, including some offers understood to be in the range of £35 million per year. Rashford has not appeared for Ruben Amorim since United's 3-2 home loss to Nottingham Forest on December 7, but he was in the squad for the 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United.

Nevertheless, Rashford still looks set for the exit door, having made it clear that he would like a new challenge. Amid links to the division, Ronaldo's comments on the Saudi Pro League speak volumes. A matter of days before Rashford's situation at United became uncertain, Ronaldo told the Globe Soccer Awards: "Saudi League is better than Ligue 1, of course. France only has PSG. The rest are finished. Try to sprint in 38, 39, 40 degree weather and see.".

Before those comments, he also added: "To be honest I think the Saudi League is not worse than French league, in my opinion. In [the] French league I think you have two, three teams with a good level. "In Saudi now I think it's more competitive. They can say whatever they want, it's just my opinion and I played there one year so I know what I'm talking about. But I think right now we are better than [the] French league, we still improve.
