The cause of death of a Croatian footballer who died aged 24 has been revealed by Spanish authorities after they performed an autopsy on his body. The body of Jakov Jelkic, who played for Swiss third division side FC Granges-Paccot, was found in the waters of Alicante on Monday. Cristian Plazas, a spokesman for the National Police of Alicante, said that cameras footage reviewed by police showed Jelkic staggering out of a nightclub near the port, 'having ingested some type of alcoholic drink.'.
Mr Plazas added: 'There were no signs of violence on the body, and given that he was filmed walking towards the area, we assume that he fell into the sea. 'The sea is cold at this time of year, and he was alone. 'The investigation will continue as the autopsy is only one part of the process. We will analyze all available information, but from what is known so far, it appears to be an accident'.
