British TV presenter Michaela Strachan is one of 11 celebrities taking to the rink for the new series of Dancing on Ice. While she is excited to be appearing on the show, she says she made one big mistake in preparation for her new role as an ice dancer. “My partner is extremely concerned that I’m going to injure myself,” she says. “The first thing we did when I was asked to do the show was watch the accidents on YouTube, which is probably the worst thing to do. I’m of an age where it takes longer for me to mend so the thought of injury does concern me.”.
Michaela, 58, who is now based in South Africa, nevertheless accepted the challenge, admitting that she is “a show girl at heart” who enjoys performing. “I love the creative side of dancing, I trained in musical theatre a very long time ago,” she says. “I really enjoy performing so to be able to go back to that which is something I’ve not been able to do for a very long time really excites me.”.
The star, who is best known for presenting The Really Wild Show, The Hitman and Her and Countryfile, reveals she has some skating experience prior to Dancing on Ice, thanks to her mum. “My mother went through a phase where she used to do something fitness related every Friday. One of her phases was ice skating lessons at Richmond rink so in the holidays we would go with her so we probably did it more than the average child, but it was many moons ago.”.
