David Coote has decided against launching an appeal after he was sacked as a Premier League referee by the PGMOL. Coote was initially suspended in November after a video emerged that showed him calling Jurgen Klopp a "German c***" and describing Liverpool as "s***". He was then embroiled in further controversy after a video that allegedly showed him snorting a white powder was also leaked.
It was claimed that clip was filmed just hours after Coote had worked as a VAR during France's Euro 2024 quarter-final win over Portugal last summer. In a statement confirming Coote's axing, PGMOL said: "Following the conclusion of a thorough investigation into David Coote's conduct, his employment with PGMOL has been terminated today with immediate effect.
"David Coote's actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable. Supporting David Coote continues to be important to us and we remain committed to his welfare. "David Coote has a right to appeal the decision to terminate his employment." However, according to the Daily Mail, Coote has decided not to appeal his dismissal and has accepted his career as a Premier League official is over.
He remains under investigation by the Football Association after they launched a betting probe into a Championship match between Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion in October 2019 that Coote refereed. It was alleged that Coote discussed booking Leeds star Ezgjan Alioski with a fan online before taking charge of the match. However, he has denied any wrongdoing in a statement addressing the allegation.
