Thousands of Trump supporters were pelted with snow as they queued for hours to get into the President's victory rally - while he danced on stage with the Village People. The 47th president-elect swayed and pumped his fists to the 1978 disco hit YMCA - a tune that has become an anthem for the MAGA campaign, playing at almost all of Trump's rallies. But outside Washington’s Capital One Arena on Sunday, thousands of his supporters were covered in snow as they waited for up to 10 hours in sub-zero temperatures to catch a glimse of all the action.
Trump’s Sunday rally, held a day before his Inauguration, saw tens of thousands of people take to the queues - with many failing to make it into the arena on time and others simply abandoning the long wait to go home and defrost. One Trump supporter and his wife stood waiting for 10 hours as snow battered Washington DC and sent temperatures plumetting to -1C. The couple told news.com.au that they were still seven blocks away from the event when Trump took to the stage, and faced another two hour wait before making it to the entrance of the Capital One Arena.
“There were people cutting in the line and the police just threw their hands up in the air,” the Florida man, who chose not to share his name, said. “And then there were the so-called tickets, which they’re not even checking on the door”. MAGA supporters also had no access to loos along the route, causing coffee shops to fill up. Outside, rain and hailstones fell on crowds - who ran to take shelter in restaurants and shops in a bid to stay dry. Several thousand were still left freezing on the street as the rally began, including those who arrived as early as 7am.
