Donald Trump's official portrait draws comparisons with mugshot

A new portrait of Donald Trump ahead of his inauguration has drawn comparisons to his viral mugshot as he stares down the camera. In the latest photo, the US president-elect can be seen staring seriously into the camera, with a furrowed brow. The positioning almost mimics the pose of the mugshot taken after he was arrested on charges of plotting to overturn the 2020 election result in 2023.
Mr Trump made history by becoming the first former American president to have his mugshot taken but will step back into the Oval Office on Monday following what has been described as one of the greatest political comebacks in US history. Earlier this week a top prosecutor found that Mr Trump would have been convicted for attempting to interfere with the 2020 US election result if he had not been re-elected.
US Special Counsel Jack Smith said that Mr Trump had engaged in an "unprecedented criminal effort" to hold on to power after losing to Joe Biden. His report concludes that the evidence would have been significant enough to convict Mr Trump at trial, but that his imminent return to the White House made that impossible.
Mr Trump’s second presidential term is set to begin when he is inaugurated on Monday and officially takes over from Mr Biden. The Republican will be sworn in before supporters and former presidents in the Washington DC ceremony on Monday before military processions and meetings.
