Angry NFL fans took to social media to slam NBC for how the broadcaster marked Jayden Daniels eclipsing Robert Griffin III's rushing record on Sunday night. Daniels led his Commanders to a playoff-clinching 30-24 win over Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night and clinched a landmark achievement of his own on the way to victory.
The rookie quarterback ran for 127 yards, taking him to a tally of 867 for the season and overtaking the record Griffin etched out in his 2012 debut season at 815 yards. As NBC showed a graphic comparing the two, eagle-eyed fans noticed that NBC removed the 'Redskins' logo from Griffin's jersey.
The team rebranded in 2020, succumbing to years-long pressure by dropping 'Redskins,' which is considered offensive to Native Americans. In 2021, the team played as the Washington Football Team before later becoming the Commanders. 'Imagine being so 'progressive' you edit history in real-time. NBC airbrushing the Redskins logo off RG3's jersey is peak clown show,' one unhappy fan wrote on X. 'If you’re offended by a graphic, wait till you hear about how inflation’s ruining real life.'.
Jayden Daniels beat a Robert Griffin III record for the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Until Sunday, quarterback Griffin held a rookie Commanders record of 815 rushing yards. NBC appeared to edit the 'Redskins' logo off the crest of Griffin's jersey for their graphic.
Another NFL fan who took to social media wrote: 'NBC erasing the Redskins logo is a perfect example of cultural erasure. 'Woke ideology doesn’t stop at renaming mascots—it’s about rewriting history, erasing heritage, and imposing ideological control. This is war on tradition.'.
