The most romantic day of the year is just around the corner, and whether you're spending it celebrating platonic love with your besties or romantic love with your partner, it's a great excuse to kit out your house out in heart, rose and love-themed paraphernalia. Whether it's simply adding a cushion to the sofa to give you a little rose-tinted boost, or sprucing up your kitchen utensils and dining pieces to make that Valentine's meal that extra special, the high street is overflowing with bits and bobs to get you in the mood for the occasion.
From movie night essentials like heart shaped bowls in which to stash popcorn to heart-adorned bedspreads, we've taken a look at what the high street has to offer to give your home some love come February 13 and 14 - let's not forget Galentine's Day. Nothing says Valentine's Day decor like a frilly, heart-shaped cushion that's entirely pink. Costing £29, this romantic-themed cushion from Urban Outfitters is a lovely way to subtly nod to the occasion without going overboard. Although it's perfect for sprucing up your lounge or bedroom for the love-filled day, it's a lovely piece to sport all year round with its pink hues and luxe satin make-up.
Having a night in with the girlies on Feb 14? Why not serve up hot chocolate and marshmallows in these adorable Valentine's themed mugs? With two different options, both decorated with a tile effect, a white depicting the French word for kiss - bisous - and the red adorned in small cupid bows, hearts, and roses, the £12 mugs come with a gold handle that adds a sophistication to the set. On Anthropologie's website, a description of the mugs reads: "Say au revoir to everyone-has-it dinnerware & décor – and bonjour (or bon appetit!) to bold, bestselling, mosaic-inspired motifs, phrases en français, and a hint of glimmer with 24k gold decals. Drawing inspiration from the many sidewalk cafes that dot Parisian boulevards, each talk-worthy table topper and beautiful bathroom accent makes the perfect statement for the Francophile at heart (or a cherishable hostess gift!).".
Nothing says Valentine's Day more than a vase for freshly picked flowers. And this from M&S has been handpainted with hearts that alternate across a pink and white check pattern. A gorgeous, uplifting gift for your partner or bestie, it's a lovely item that can show off a fresh bouquet, whilst also adding some personality to a room. Costing £15, the vase has a scalloped edge and a relatively tall cylindrical shape. The ceramic vase is new in at Marks and Spencer and as a result has only received one review so far, although it's a pretty stellar one.
It reads: "Amazing quality. Hand-painted and the perfect size for a bunch of flowers. Well worth the £15.". Okay, now I know this table runner has no hearts or roses or any emblem relating to Valentine's or Galentines Day on it, but it is red and pink - which are colours mostly associated with the occasion - and simply stunning. Adding these colours to your table setting will immediately brighten up the space and offset those red roses beautifully too. Plus, with no symbols on it, it can be used all year round - great for dinner parties, especially paired with the place settings.
Hosting a sip and paint night for the girlies this Valentine's Day? Decorate your table with these four identical placemats that are decorated with two different pink tones to really make your dining table pop. Brimming with personality, the placemats will add playfulness to your room while the pink tones scream Valentine's Day. Pair with Pink Heart Valentines Champagne Saucers - for your bubbly - and some heart beaded coasters, £14, and you've got a fab, love themed evening all planned.
These fun cushions are a great way to pay homage to the national day of love, without going too overboard. Costing £12, the two super soft pillows, as described by Dunelm, 'offer more than just a soft place to rest—they bring a touch of affection to your décor'. Coming in red and pink, the cushions have a 3D design with arms - but that's not all. The arms are magnetically connected, meaning the cushions can hold hands, creating an adorable symbol of love and togetherness.
Serving up starters or want some snacks for your movie night on V-day? Oliver Bonas' artisanal style heart-shaped bowls are perfect for the occasion, without being too cutesy or overly romantic. Coming in an orange, green and pink, the bowls differ in sizes and fit neatly into eachother for easy storage. Finished with a lovely reactive-glaze, the bowls are totally unique in design, making them a gorgeous statement piece in your home.
Serving up a feast that requires multiple courses on Valentine's Day? Or are hosting the girlies for a Galentine's movie night? Using a hard-wearing, durable and aesthetically pleasing plate, like this one from Dunelm, on which to serve up these snacks and courses is a great way to celebrate the occasion in style. Costing £10, the plate can be easily cleaned with a simple wipe and it's such a great way to elevate your dining experience simply.
