Elon Musk's stance on owning a Premier League club was revealed in a past tweet which has gone viral after he was sensationally linked with Liverpool. Musk's father claimed the billionaire tycoon is interested in splashing the cash at Anfield - although the Reds' hierarchy have received no official approach.
Worth an estimated £340billion, any investment from Musk would be a mere drop in the ocean, and he name-dropped one club he most wanted to invest in in 2022. The posts, which have since resurfaced in the wake of the shock Merseyside takeover rumours, also shed light on whether his interest should be taken seriously.
'Also, I'm buying Manchester United ur [sic] welcome,' Musk tweeted. One account, looking to gauge whether Musk was joking, replied: 'Are you serious?'. Elon Musk previously revealed his stance on owning a club in the Premier League. Musk has been linked with a shock takeover at Liverpool after comments from his father.
In tweets from 2022, Musk said he would buy Manchester United before backtracking. Musk then clarified, saying: 'No, this is a long-running joke on Twitter. I'm not buying any sports teams. Although, if it were any team, it would be Man U. 'They were my fav team as a kid.'.
As reported by Mail Sport, Liverpool's owners have no intention of selling the club regardless of any potential concrete interest from Musk. In a bombshell interview, Musk's father, Errol, confirmed that the businessman may look to add the club to a portfolio also including SpaceX, Tesla and X.
