A deadly crash will leave lives on the line next week on Emmerdale - as Caleb Miligan learns a shocking truth. Caleb caused waves in the Dingle family when he arrived a few Christmases back with a dark secret. The brother of Cain and Chas Dingle, Caleb’s true motive was soon exposed as he desperately tried to take down Kim Tate in revenge over his father Frank Tate’s death. Months later, he’s found himself settled within Emmerdale’s most famous family - but disaster is about to strike.

On Wednesday, Caleb is left in no doubt that Cain has secretly slept with his wife Ruby Fox-Miligan, wiht terrifying consequences. Now Caleb actor Will Ash reveals things soon take a dangerous turn. “It sets off something in him. He can be quite calculated and quite measured, but when it comes to this, he can’t contain his rage,” Will said of the fight scenes between Cain and Caleb, “It kicks off massively. I hurt myself filming it. I was hitting a bag and was going for it and I managed to hurt myself but I didn’t have to go to hospital.”.

In dramatic scenes set to air next week, two limo crashes will leave many of the village’s iconic residents in peril. As Liam plans to use a raffle prize limo for a grand proposal to Chas, he’s left defeated when he loses out to Kerry. Determined not to propose to Chas anyway he secures another limo. But when Kerry invites the girls on a night out whilst Liam invites the boys instead, hoping to meet up with Chas and still go through with his proposal. With Charity and Caleb stepping in as drivers, things soon take a turn. In separate accidents, the limos end up swerving off the road - with one crashing onto a frozen lake.

“This incredible icy lake was made out of wax. It was a cold frosty night and you’ve got this huge limousine sunk into it,” Will says as he recalls filming the scenes. “When you’re walking on the wax, it felt like ice and you worried you were going to fall in. Everyone was walking so carefully. They had this huge crane because they had to lower the limo into this hole they had made because it wasn’t allowed to sit in the wax. It was pretty spectacular!”.

Whilst Cain and Caleb’s on-screen relationship takes a turn next week, the same can’t be said for Will’s friendship with co-star Jeff Hordley. “I’ve known Jeff for 35 years so to get to work with him and play his brother has been a great thing. We used to do plays together when we were just starting out. It feels very brotherly, it’s very easy,” he says. The Dingles even have a special WhatsApp group outside the show - but what happens in there remains a secret! “When Lydia had been raped and Craig murdered, there was a week where we were all in the Woolpack together trying to find out who killed him and the WhatsApp group came from that,” he says.

Away from his relationship with Cain, Caleb has been supporting his wife Ruby. Last week, viewers learned that Ruby had really been responsible for killing her abusive dad Anthony Fox, as Will warned Caleb will do anything to protect Ruby. “He’d put his life on the line for her and to keep the secret from Steph. It’s too painful for that to get out. It’s painful enough for Caleb and Ruby. They’re just papering over the cracks. It’s inevitable that it’s going to get out,” Will says. “Without a doubt Caleb would take the blame. He didn’t see that Ruby was carrying this secret and wasn’t able to say it, but he feels gutted that he didn’t know anything. She’s sacrificed so much for him.”.

With Steph joining the family in the Dales, Will would love to see his onscreen son Nicky (Lewis Cope) return. “I’d love for Lewis to come back. I didn’t want him to go. Nicky would find out about Ruby and grandad and it all makes sense to him why Steph was sent away, the family dynamic would be really interesting if he was to come back.”. With a deadly crash looming, and the truth set to come out about Anthony’s real killer, are Caleb’s days numbered in the village? “It’s been a gift to do such big scenes. They’re dark subjects but you’ve got to embrace the darkness of it. They’re really challenging but you want to get them right,” Will concludes.

Whatever the future holds for Caleb and his family, things could certainly be cut short when chaos strikes next week. Like this story?
