England have been dealt a major blow with Immanuel Feyi-Waboso ruled out of the Six Nations. Feyi-Waboso has opted to undergo surgery after suffering a dislocated shoulder while playing for Exeter Chiefs last month. The 22-year-old will be out of action for around 10 to 12 weeks, meaning he will be absent for all of the upcoming Six Nations.
The news is a hammer blow to head coach Steve Borthwick, who is due to announce his squad for the Six Nations next Tuesday. Feyi-Waboso was one of England’s biggest positives last year and was shortlisted for World Rugby’s Breakthrough Player of the Year award.
There had initially been optimism about the wing’s shoulder injury, which he suffered during Exeter’s 28-10 loss to Sale Shark last month. “Initially it’s popped out, popped back in, and now we’ve just got to wait and see what the damage is,” Exeter director of rugby Rob Baxter told BBC Sport.
“When it first popped back, I don’t think he seemed to be in too much pain because he was a bit: ‘Can I not carry on?’. “The medics had to go: ‘Clearly not, you’ve just had a shoulder dislocation’. So we’re hopeful that that means there’s not too much damage.
“We've just got to assume that the likelihood is he’s got some shoulder damage from a shoulder dislocation and we’ll have to see how bad it is.”. England already have fitness issues in their back three as full-back George Furbank has a broken arm.
