Escape to the Country presenter Nicki Chapman was left scratching her head when a couple vanished mid-viewing on Tuesday's episode (February 4). The latest instalment of the BBC favourite featured Bromley duo, Beverley and Neill, who wanted to bid farewell to their home of three decades for a fresh start in the Devon countryside. With a generous £675,000 to play with, the pair were hunting for a detached house boasting three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a manageable garden, and those all-important rural views, not forgetting proximity to the seaside.
Nicki showed them two gorgeous properties along the Devonshire coast before whisking them off to a mystery house in the secluded village of Rousdon, which took their breath away. Nestled within a 350-acre estate, the grand end-of-terrace abode dated back to 1878. Once the property of a prosperous tea and spice merchant, it has since been converted into an elite enclave of 104 homes, complete with its very own private beach, reports Devon Live.
Neill was awestruck, exclaiming, "Oh, my goodness. That is beautiful," while Beverley chimed in with a surprised: "Yikes! It's really interesting because it's so different to what we've been looking at.". However, as Nicki initiated the tour, starting with the sitting room, she soon noticed Beverley and Neill were nowhere to be seen. "Where have you gone?" she called out down the corridor, only for the couple to re-emerge, admitting they'd taken a "sneaky peek" in the kitchen.
"I came striding in to say, 'Let's start with the sitting room,' and turned around and was on my own!" Nicki quipped with a laugh. After the viewing impressed them, Nicki disclosed that the house was on the market for £690,000—just a bit pricier than Beverley and Neill had budgeted for. Catching up later, Nicki chatted with Beverley and Neill who admitted that the mystery house had thrown a spanner in the works, as it impacted them unexpectedly.
