Everton's Neal Maupay statement spoke volumes as on-loan star hits out again

Everton showed their true feelings towards Neal Maupay when announcing his departure - before the Frenchman’s latest mockery of the club. Maupay, who was signed by Everton for a fee of £15million in 2022, is currently on loan at Marseille in a deal which will be made permanent next summer. With just one goal in 32 appearances for the Toffees before being sent out on two loan spells, the striker’s time at Goodison Park was a resounding failure.
Between various social media jibes and clashes with fans, it is safe to say that the 28-year-old doesn’t look back on his spell with the club fondly. On Sunday, he sparked the wrath of the Everton faithful once more with an unprovoked remark about his parent club following a 2-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
In a tweet which would cause mayhem on the platform, Maupay wrote on X: “Whenever I’m having a bad day I just check the Everton score and smile.”. It is safe to assume he won’t be putting on an Everton shirt any time soon. And there has been no love lost from the club’s perspective either, with the Toffees not even thanking the player when announcing his loan move to Marseille in August.
The statement posted on their official website read: "Neal Maupay has left Everton to join Olympique de Marseille on loan for 2024/25, with the French club having an obligation to buy the forward at the end of the season. "Maupay moves to the Ligue 1 side after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan with one of his former clubs Brentford. The 28-year-old Frenchman joined Everton in August 2022, making 32 appearances for the Blues and scoring one goal.".
