As news circulated that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt put an end to their bitter eight-year legal battle in reaching a divorce settlement Monday, a number of fans took to social media marveling over the amount of time and money it took to get to this point.
'So their divorce lasted longer than the marriage,' one Instagram user said of the union, while another added, 'They spent more time on this divorce than they spent being married.'. One user said, 'Why did it take 8yrs?! That’s Ridiculous! That must of been so hard on the their children ... so sad,' while another said, 'It took them 8 years to resolve this. It seems they didn't really want to get divorced that much.'.
The divorce technically lasted nearly four times longer than the marriage, which began when the A-listers exchanged vows on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the French winery they shared - and battled over in the legal system - Château Miraval. They officially split two years and 28 days later when Jolie, 49, filed for divorce from Pitt, 61, on Monday, September 19, 2016.
It has been more than eight years and three months from that date thru Monday, when the split was finalized. (They were individually declared legally single in 2019.).
