Golden State Warriors star Dennis Schroder has been fiercely criticized after comparing the NBA's trade deadline to 'modern slavery'. The basketball world was rocked over the weekend by news of Luka Doncic's stunning trade to the LA Lakers, with Anthony Davis heading in the opposite direction to join the Dallas Mavericks as part of the deal. Plenty more business is expected to be completed in the dying hours before Thursday's deadline, something Schroder knows all too well about after previously being traded twice on the final day of the window.

However, the Warriors guard has provoked fury this week after describing it as 'modern slavery' when ranting about Doncic's trade to LA. 'It’s like modern slavery. It’s modern slavery at the end of the day,' Schroder, who earns $13million per year with Golden State, is quoted as saying by NBC Sports Bay Area. 'Everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract. 'Yeah, of course, we make a lot of money and we can feed our families, but at the end of the day if they say, "You’re not coming to work tomorrow, you’re going over there," they can decide that. They got to change that a little bit.'.

NBA star Dennis Schroder has controversially compared the trade deadline to 'modern slavery'. Fans were left appalled by Schroder's comparison, with one saying on X: 'Dude what? Why dennis always talking about this typa stuff man'. Another commented: 'Then don’t sign your mega million dollar contract. “Feed our families”. Out of touch with reality bro.'. 'A point of view like that can only be made from a position of immense privilege. Really silly take,' concluded a third.

'“Yeah we make generational wealth but i can be traded to Chicago,"' a fourth said sarcastically. While one simply wrote: 'This might be the worst quote of all time'. Doncic, a five-time NBA All-Star and five-time All-NBA First Team, was in line for a five-year, $345m super-max contract from the Mavericks next season, but after being traded can now earn a maximum of $229m across the same timeframe with the Lakers.

'Still grateful that we’re here and that we can live this every single day. I think everybody who’s in here is blessed,' Schroder continued. Schroder was reacting to Luka Doncic's stunning trade from the Mavericks to the Lakers. But fans were quick to berate the Warriors guard for making such an extreme comparison. 'But if you really think about it, it is kind of crazy that the organization can tell you, "We want you to be team-first, but you’re going over there." It’s a lot.'.

He also added: 'Luka Doncic just got traded and got five f***ing NBA First Teams, All-Stars, he brought money to them, NBA Finals last year and $117million he can’t sign now because he got traded, and that’s no state income tax. 'From now on, I see it even more crazier than it was, because to trade somebody like that, nobody’s safe. 'Not even Steph Curry’s safe probably when I see that. It’s a f***ed up business.'.
