Father Brown season 12 continues and this time around, it is up to everyone’s favourite Roman Catholic priest to hunt down a thief. Harry Potter star Mark Williams is once again donning the dog collar in episode five, The Cup of Calabria, alongside his fellow main co-stars including Tom Chambers as Ch Insp Sullian and Claudie Blakley as Mrs Devine. This week, Father Brown is in need of some help beyond his peers so ahead of episode five’s release, here’s everything there is to know about The Cup of Calabria guest stars.
The latest episode, which airs on Friday, February 7, at 2pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, begins with a priceless relic going missing. It is then the Vatican’s Cardinal Papillon who instructs Father Brown to recover the holy relic down, believing it to have been made from the True Cross. Actor Colin McFarlane is recognised for playing Ulysses in the Starz drama Outlander, as well as Gillian B Loeb in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy.
More recently, McFarlane was behind Chief Superintendent Cunningham in ITV ’s 2024 police sitcom Piglets. While there is a new nemesis to contend with, Father Brown seeks help from professional thief who is known to steal artefacts important to the Catholic faith. However, his appearance this time around seems to be more rundown which the priest believes could be to do with Flambeau’s grief following the death of his dad last year.
Apart from regularly returning for Father Brown, actor John Light has been in Inspector Lewis, Mars, Around the World in 80 Days and BBC’s Showtrial. Light was also previously married to Scream and The Lincoln Lawyer actress Neve Campbell. It is at a secret auction that Father Brown and Flambeau discover that others are after the relic, including a “desperate” Dame Lydia Adams. Actress Christina Cole was Cassie Hughs in Sky’s supernatural series Hex and Dr Paula Agard in the legal drama Suits.
At the heart of the drama is Father Vincent Lazarus who was recently excommunicated and so sought out revenge by stealing the Cup of Calabria, and killing a guard in the process. Actor Lex Shrapnel has been in Domina, Infiniti, played Alan Graves in Sexy Beast and David Wallasey in last year’s The Bay on ITV. Leading the bids for the religious relic is auctioneer Ronnie Larkin, played by actor Danny Szam.
