Summary at a Glance

A fundraising drive has been launched for a revamped play area in honour of Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, and Bebe King, six, who both attended Churchtown Primary School in the town.

As part of the fundraising drive, Mr Aguiar and the school’s headteacher Jinnie Payne, along with other teaching staff, will run the London Marathon in April.

Ms Aguiar told BBC Breakfast the stage of the performance area would have been Alice’s “favourite part”.

Ms Payne said: “When my colleagues and I are running in April we’ll be holding Alice and Bebe in our hearts, and they’ll be powering us on towards the finish line.”.

The father of one of the three girls murdered at a dance class in Southport will run the London Marathon to help build a new school playground in her memory.
