Five people have been shot in an attack in the Swedish city of Örebro, triggering a massive emergency response. “Five persons are confirmed shot,” police said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that their condition was unknown. “This is currently seen as attempted murder, arson and aggravated weapons offence.”.
The shooting took place in a campus area where several educational institutions for both children and adults are located. Police said students were held indoors at the affected facility and at nearby schools. “The news of an attack at Örebro is very serious,” the justice minister, Gunnar Strömmer, told the public broadcaster SVT, adding that the government was in contact with police. Ambulances, rescue services and police were at the scene in the city that lies about 125 miles (200km) west of Stockholm, a spokesperson for local rescue services said. A police spokesperson declined to comment further when contacted by Reuters.
