Footy legend Jonathan Brown has recalled Troy Selwood's 'struggles' in life following his tragic death aged just 40. Brown, 43, spoke to Jase and Lauren on NOVA FM on Wednesday morning - and confirmed his great mate was battling some personal problems. 'It is sad, I know Troy had some struggles,' Brown, a three-time premiership winner with the Brisbane Lions said. 'We were great mates.....he was a wonderful human with a wonderful soul.

'Troy nearly got kicked out of our wedding after he was part of creating a slip and slide with Crown Lager bottles,' Brown said. 'The [wedding venue] operators weren't too happy...and in terms of his nickname, it is pretty simple.
'With his surname Selwood.....who sells wood? Bunnings. So we called him Bunno.'. Geelong great Jimmy Bartel told listeners on 3AW Selwood's death 'hit close to home.'. 'I spent a lot of time with Troy at the Geelong Football Club,' he said. 'He was part of the famous Selwood family with Joel, who I spent 15 years of my playing career playing with the great Joel Selwood. 'One of the most beautiful families and a beautiful person.'.

Craig Lambert, who worked in Brisbane's player welfare department during Selwood's playing stint at the club, said Selwood's passing was 'absolutely devastating news'. Selwood's body was found at a Geelong home on Tuesday morning after the 40-year-old battled mental health issues in recent years. He is part of the famous AFL football family which includes Geelong champion Joel, plus West Coast Eagles player Adam and Geelong player Scott.
Selwood, the number 19 pick in the 2002 national draft, played 75 games between 2003-2010 with Brisbane before returning to Geelong, where he captained the Cats to a VFL premiership in 2012. Excelling in talent identification, Selwood worked at Geelong between 2011 and 2021 before a brief stint at Collingwood. Next was a move to Geelong Grammar, where he mentored Richmond young gun Sam Lalor. Selwood had two children – Tom and Sadie – with partner Sarah, but it is believed the pair had split.
