Coronation Street legends Bill Roache, Michael Le Vell and Sally Dynevor have all signed new year-long contracts to remain on the ITV soap, we can reveal. The news about the Ken Barlow, Kevin and Sally Webster stars will be music to Corrie fans’ ears after a series of high-profile exits from the show. This week it was revealed Colson Smith had been axed after playing Craig Tinker for 14 years. Co-stars Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe) and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) have also been written out by bosses recently.
Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) revealed she'd quit the programme this week, following in the footsteps of Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw). It comes after the shock exit of Helen Worth as Gail Platt after 50 years. But it’s not all bad news on the Weatherfield cobbles, as Corrie stalwarts Bill, Michael and Sally have all extended their stays on the much-loved soap.
Bill, the world's longest-serving TV soap actor as Ken Barlow, joined the show in 1960. The 92-year-old actor started on £70 a week and now earns a reported £250,000 a year. He previously said how he’d wanted to be on the show until he was 100. He said: “Someone said to me, ‘Look, Bill, you’re in the Guinness Book of Records, you’ve got the MBE, you’ve been in Coronation Street for over 60 years, what else is there?’ I said to him, ‘I would like to be the first centenarian who is still cast in an ongoing drama’. That’s my aim, to be 100 and still working on Coronation Street. While they want me and while I can do it I’ll continue to do it.”.
