Gabriel Jesus has revealed he is working to be real “No.9” goal poacher after netting his sixth Arsenal goal in the last four games. The Brazil star had scored just once in 33 matches before his Carabao Cup hat-trick over Crystal Palace before Christmas. The £45m forward followed up with another Premier League brace against the South London club - and then netted the equaliser at Brentford.

The 3-1 win saw Mikel Arteta’s side return to second place and keep in touch with leaders Liverpool. And Jesus’ hot seasonal streak has also reduced the pressure on Arsenal to buy a new striker this January as they chase four titles without the injured Bukayo Saka.

The former Manchester City had more assists (five) than Premier League goals (four) last season as he contributed more outside the box. But Jesus admitted he has sights set on scoring more after his close-range finish at the GTech Stadium. “That’s what it’s all about, me as a No.9,” he said. “Obviously, I want to drop, I want to play, sometimes, it’s not just my game to be there. But if I want to score goals I have to be there. I have to wait for the ball for some tap ins or rebounds, so I’m happy with that.

“With my positions to be always there, in the right time and right place to try to score goals. So, I could be in the right place and score so I’m really happy with that.”. Liverpool legend Ian Rush had a remarkable run of never losing in 144 consecutive games where he scored for the Anfield club until Arsenal won the 1987 Littlewoods Cup final thanks to a Charlie Nicholas double. Jesus has now never lost in 60 Premier League games where he has scored.
