Now December is here, homes across the UK are gearing up for the festive season by putting up Christmas trees. Yet although fake trees are no doubt a popular, reusable choice for many families, you can't beat the authentic feel of a real tree. From going out to choose 'the one' at a nursery to bringing it back home and smelling that fresh aroma Christmas trees give off.

Then of course comes the decorating of it - hanging lights and tinsel and maybe even a few chocolates here and there. This all adds to the wonderful and magical Christmas feeling that the next few weeks hold. However, there also is a practical downside to having a real Christmas tree, no matter how nice it looks. The reality is that pine needle after pine needle will drop onto your carpet or wooden floors as the days go by. Understandably you want to clean them up as quickly as possible and your first port of call is likely to be a vacuum clear. But this method is not as good as it first sounds because the pesky needles can build up inside the tube and cause a blockage to stop the vacuum from working effectively.

At bothersome best, you'll have to manually unblock it and at worst the appliance might overheat and break completely. This could end up costing you unnecessary money fixing it or buying a new one. One less-well-know yet brilliant technique for cleaning up needles, however, is to use a tool normally reserved for cleaning hairs off clothes and upholstery. According to vacuum and repair experts PHC, "lint rollers – although designed to be used on coats and dress clothes, many people use them to get rid of pet hair too, as well as those terrible dead pine needles left over after Christmas!".
