Kobbie Mainoo's impressive performance against Liverpool has led Gary Lineker to question why Ruben Amorim hasn't been playing the England star more regularly. The 19-year-old was one of the best players on the pitch as the Red Devils claimed a point on Sunday (January 5) in an enthralling clash at Anfield. Lisandro Martinez's opener was cancelled out by Cody Gakpo's equaliser before Mohamed Salah put the hosts ahead from the spot, but Amad levelled late on to share the spoils.

It was a return to form for Mainoo, who's suffered somewhat of a slump in his second season at Old Trafford. Discussing the entertaining match on The Rest is Football podcast, Lineker pondered why the midfielder hasn't played as regularly as last season.

After Micah Richards praised United captain Bruno Fernandes for his man-of-the-match performance, the Match of the Day host said: "Kobbie Mainoo back in the starting line-up, which begs the question why hasn't he been playing more regularly recently?".

Mainoo hasn't completed 90 minutes in a Premier League match since United's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth last month. He has started all but two league games since Amorim's arrival, though. He's featured from the bench once under the Portuguese boss when he was brought on for Joshua Zirkzee in the first half of their 2-0 loss to Newcastle last week. The only match he's missed in its entirety was last month's 2-0 loss to Arsenal, for which he was suspended.
