Gary Lineker destroys Alan Shearer with brutal BBC FA Cup intro

Gary Lineker could not resist taking a dig at Alan Shearer while presenting the BBC's coverage of Arsenal's FA Cup third-round clash against Manchester United. Lineker was joined by pundits Theo Walcott and Micah Richards in the studio, while Shearer was on commentary alongside Guy Mowbray. After showing a clip of Walcott scoring in the 2015 final where Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-0, Lineker introduced Shearer.
And he quickly poked fun at Shearer's FA Cup record as he said: "Only 307 men have scored in an FA Cup Final. Alan Shearer… isn't one of them! But he is on co-commentary duty today.". However, Lineker was not done there as he asked Shearer who he made his FA Cup debut against. Shearer replied: "Was it against Spurs? I think we won but I didn't score so can't remember it that well.".
Lineker then responded: "Yep I was playing as well for Spurs. I can't remember it at all. But I can remember the next season… we won the FA Cup." That was Lineker's only FA Cup win, while Shearer memorably reached back-to-back finals with Newcastle in 1998 and 1999 and lost both matches.
Reflecting on those defeats on an episode of the Match of the Day: Top 10 podcast back in 2021, Shearer described them as "horrific". He said: "I f*****g hate the FA Cup. I don't really, I am only joking. "But when an FA Cup final comes around and I know you take the p**s out of me but when I hear: 'It has always been my dream to play in an FA Cup final,' I think it is not your f*****g dream to play in an FA Cup final, it is your dream to win an FA Cup final.
