Gary Lineker has passed on his best wishes to Marcus Rashford and hopes the forward ‘rallies’ to resurrect his Manchester United career. Rashford has been a shadow of his former self over the last 18 months and the attacker revealed this week that he was ‘ready for a new challenge’ away from Old Trafford.

It’s been an extraordinary fall from grace for the 27-year-old, who enjoyed his best-ever campaign in front of goal just two seasons ago with the Red Devils. Rashford has also been left by the wayside at international level, last featuring as a second-half substitute during England’s friendly with Brazil back in March.

Facing the media this morning, Ruben Amorim insisted he had not given up on Rashford, despite leaving the player out of his matchday squad for United’s thrilling comeback win over Manchester City on Sunday. ‘This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent,’ Amorim told reporters ahead of United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham.
